Moving to a new city can be daunting and disorienting. From driving routes to stores to people, everything is just so… new and unfamiliar. So, as you’re figuring out your new commute, where you’re going to get your groceries, and “where did I pack that…” it stands to reason that some things will slip through the cracks. Your oral health should not be one of these things.
To ensure that your teeth and gums don’t wind up bearing the brunt of your big move, it’s crucial to find a dental practice that’s suited to meeting your needs as soon as possible after your arrival.
To this end, we’ve put together a short list of considerations that should help you with this decision.
Leverage Local Experience
Don’t be bashful about drawing on the firsthand experiences of new neighbors, co-workers, classmates, and other folks from around the new community in your search for a new dentist. These opinions can be invaluable in addressing specific questions that you have about the actual experience of visiting a dental practice.
And, for good measure, you might make a new local friend or two while you’re gathering this all-important info!
Lean on the Internet
There’s a chance that work, school, responsibilities at home, and, well, moving have left you a bit tired. Not to worry!
All of this information gathering about dental practices does not have to be carried out in person. You can also take to the internet to connect with your new city. Most neighborhoods and communities have dedicated social media pages and groups through which you pick up your local insights, for instance, the best dentist in town. You can also leverage local experience online by reading third-party reviews.
Also, make sure you visit dentists’ and insurance providers’ websites to confirm whether a particular dental practice accepts your dental insurance. Once you’ve identified the local dentists who accept your insurance, you can narrow the field further by comparing different practices’ hours of operation and the credentials and experience of the dentists and their entire teams.
Consider Convenience
Between work, school, errands, going to the gym, and whatever’s left that passes for “downtime,” you probably don’t have a lot of time to fritter away traipsing around town. This is why it’s so
important to try to make access to “your places” – like your dentist’s office – as convenient and streamlined as possible.
For instance, Leaf Dental’s office is conveniently located at 18 Adams Street, in Downtown Brooklyn, NY 11201, with easy access from Manhattan, Queens, and other parts of Brooklyn.
If you’re driving to our office from Manhattan, simply take the FDR to the Brooklyn Bridge. Once you’ve crossed and are on the other side of the East River, you’ll find yourself just a couple of minutes from the Leaf Dental office.
If you’re driving from Queens, take I-278W through Long Island City, passing through Greenpoint and Williamsburg in Brooklyn. Once you’ve passed the Navy Yard into Downtown Brooklyn, you’ll find us just past the New York City College of Technology!
Finally, if you’re coming to us from the southern parts of Brooklyn, simply take the Prospect Expressway through Carroll Gardens, again passing the New York City College of Technology to our office!
For patients using public transportation, Leaf Dental is easily accessible via the A, C, and F trains, while patients choosing to walk to our office can use the Manhattan Bridge Pedestrian Path!
Pay Your Prospective Dentist an In-Person Visit!
Once you’ve narrowed your search to the last couple of candidates, schedule an in-person visit to finalize your decision. During these visits, you’ll typically receive a tour of the office, get acquainted with the team, observe the environment, and briefly chat with the dentist about their approach, the practice’s philosophies, services offered, and your specific needs and goals.
